Discussion
Clinical professional societies play a number of important roles, including providing continuing medical education and advocating on behalf of the profession and the patients for whom their members care. Given the tumultuous changes occurring in the health care marketplace today, two of the most important roles professional societies can play are to define how quality of care should be measured and to provide their members with tools and services that help to improve the quality of care
