Wavelet analysis of oddball P300

Abstract

The comparative wavelet analysis presented in details by Demiralp et al., 1999, Ademoglu, 1995 and by Başar et al. (2001) will be now applied to oddball P300 results (see Başar-Eroglu et al., 2001). The results obtained basically confirm those obtained by using adaptive digital filtering: The delta response dominates the P300 potential while the theta response is prolonged in a second late window.

Introduction

The comparative wavelet analysis presented in details by Demiralp et al. (1999), Ademoglu (1999) and by Başar et al. (2001) will be now applied to the oddball P300 results presented by Başar-Eroglu et al. (2001). Since the application of the wavelet analysis is very pertinent to dynamic approach of brain signals we treat preliminary results that basically confirm the results obtained by application of the adaptive digital filtering methods: the delta response dominates the P300 potential. In contrast, the theta response is prolonged (in a second late window).

Methods and results

The application of a five-octave wavelet transform on the data yielded five sets of coefficients in the 63–125-Hz, 31–62-Hz (gamma), 16–30-Hz (beta), 8–15-Hz (alpha) and 4–7-Hz (theta) frequency ranges and the residues in the 0.5–4-Hz frequency band.
