  • A novel “Splint with Port for Endotracheal Tube” (SPET) as an alternative to submental intubation in trauma–A case report

2022, Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Medicine, and Pathology
    Citation Excerpt :

The management of such cases require surgical procedures which involve simultaneous ORIF of fractured maxilla/mandible or both, along with the nasal bone and achievement of occlusion by Maxillomandibular fixation (MMF). The necessity to manipulate all the involved bones for reduction and to check intra operative occlusion, precludes the use of nasal as well as oral intubation [1]. The commonly used techniques in such situations are intubation through submental or retromolar route and tracheostomy.

  • Evaluation of modified nasal to oral endotracheal tube switch—For modified alar base cinching after maxillary orthognathic surgery

2017, Journal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research
    Citation Excerpt :

Intra-operative assessment and measurement of alar base may not be accurate due to distortion of nostrils by endo tracheal tube and tightening of the cinch suture could also be restricted.11 Because of these constraints alar base cinching might become imprecise arbitrary exercise which may not meet patients and surgeons expectations.11,12 So, the study was planned to introduce and evaluate the efficacy of modified nasal to oral endotracheal tube switch technique for modified alar base cinching.

    2012, Journal of Clinical Anesthesia
    Citation Excerpt :

Different alternatives to tracheostomy have been proposed in the literature. In maxillofacial trauma, which requires maxillo-mandibular fixation and simultaneous nasal fracture reduction, switching an ETT from the nasal route to the oral route without extubation was proposed by Werther et al [7] in 1994. However, sterility of the surgical field is compromised by this method.
