2009, Seminars in PerinatologyCitation Excerpt :Not surprisingly, the recommendations are as diverse as the transfusion practices reported in the literature (Level C, expert opinion). A dose of 5 to 10 mL/kg of a platelet concentrate unit has been demonstrated to raise the platelet count in an average full-term newborn by 50,000 to 100,000/μL.26,36 Based on these observations, most practitioners order 10 mL/kg for each platelet transfusion.
