Infection is the major trigger of hemophagocytic syndrome in adult patients treated with biological therapies
2016, Seminars in Arthritis and RheumatismCitation Excerpt :A retrospective diagnosis of HLH associated with systemic M. tuberculosis infection mimicking a catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome in a patient treated with infliximab was made. We identified 30 patients who developed HLH after administration of biological therapy: 29 from the PubMed search and the unpublished case previously detailed (Tables 1 and 2) [11–39]. One of the 30 patients had already-diagnosed HLH but experienced a flair/worsening of HLH after administration of biological therapy (case 25).
