2019, Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological PsychiatryCitation Excerpt :Three of the 4 conducted studies using TBS to alleviate negative symptoms in schizophrenia targeted the left DLPFC with LTP-inducing iTBS, analogue to the antidepressant treatment with iTBS. Among the trials targeting the left DLPFC, 2 case reports showed a clinical relevant reduction of SANS scores, although Bor and colleagues did find this reduction only in the follow-up measurement after 3 months (Bor et al., 2009; Brunelin et al., 2011). The largest four-armed sham-controlled trial with 96 patients showed an improvement in PANSS negative and SANS score in all stimulation conditions (10 Hz–rTMS, 20 Hz–rTMS, iTBS), with a superiority of iTBS (Zhao et al., 2014).
