Insulin in the Cerebrospinal Fluid

Abstract

STUDIES involving injection of labelled insulin have been interpreted as evidence that insulin does not pass into brain1,2 or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)3. Neither was any significant amount of insulin detected in human CSF using the rat adipose tissue bioassay technique3,4. We have reinvestigated the question of whether insulin passes the blood-CSF barrier using the more sensitive and specific radioimmunoassay technique.
