Case study
A 38-year-old woman presented to the orthopaedic outpatient clinic with a complaint of pain located on the outer border of the left foot. She reported that the pain had been present for 1 year and was worsening each day, especially with walking. She had an office job and related that she was usually sedentary. Her past medical history showed that she had been treated for hyperprolactinemia with bromocriptine for 4 years; her mother also had hyperlipoproteinemia.

Intraoseous lipoma is a benign bone tumor that carries a good prognosis but has no known cause. Although proposed hypotheses to explain this tumor’s cause include trauma, infarct, or hamartoma, none of them has been proven 1, 2, 3, 4. The coincidence of hyperlipoproteinemia with intraosseous lipomatosis and intraosseous xanthomatosis has been reported (8).
