Disparities in mortality among high risk pregnant women in Illinois: A population based study
2006, Annals of EpidemiologyCitation Excerpt :Callaghan and Berg found similar results when comparing older to younger African American and White women with specific diagnoses, including infection, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and cardiovascular accident (21). The well documented data quality issues in vital records data (22,23) imposed limitations on this work. In addition to errors in cause of death coding, the maternal variables on the fetal death/live birth certificates, such as medical risk factors and obstetric complications, may be under reported or over reported, leading to under- or over-estimated relative risks and rates of death using these variables.
Previous maternal infection with Toxoplasma gondii and the risk of fetal death
2005, American Journal of Obstetrics and GynecologyCitation Excerpt :Therefore, we subdivided the total number of fetal deaths in our study by gestational age with breakpoints at 20 and 28 weeks of gestation and found no significant association with previous maternal infection with T gondii and fetal deaths at ≥20 weeks of gestation. Analysis of fetal death by gestational age also allows comparisons across different countries and studies because the lower limits used to distinguish spontaneous abortion from fetal death have varied widely.21 For the same reason, we have performed an analysis of fetal death by birth weight.
The infectious origins of stillbirth
2003, American Journal of Obstetrics and GynecologyCitation Excerpt :The lower limits of gestational age and birth weight that have been used to distinguish a second-trimester spontaneous abortion from a stillbirth have varied widely, both in official definitions and across studies.13
