Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is gaining importance for the treatment of symptomatic aortic stenosis. Through randomized controlled trials TAVI has been proven to be effective in inoperable patients as well as in patients with intermediate and high perioperative risk. Registry studies have documented a rapid increase in TAVI use and a significant reduction in complication rates in recent years.
