Summary

Epidemiological studies about the influence of occupational and/or leisure time physical activity on cancer development show a relation between of higher cancer risk and little physical activity, respectively a cancer risk reduction due to augmented physical activity. In particular, this was shown for breast and colon cancer. Furthermore, positive findings in clinical intervention studies on psycho-social or physical-functional aspects as well as on immunological parameters show that a regular physical exercise program is also recommendable for cancer patients in rehabilitation and secondary prevention.
