Abstract
Bina Pradhan synthesizes the feminist and socio-economic institutional perspectives embedded in the policy and programmes that use empowerment as a way to address gender inequality and the power dynamics between women and men in their day-to-day interaction. She highlights the inadequacy of the conventional approach and measures of empowerment and suggests the techniques of data gathering of measurement variables based on lessons learned from empirical application of the framework for programming empowerment.
