Conduct problems and sexting: Gender differences
2024, Computers in Human BehaviorEffects of functional impairment on internalizing symptom trajectories in adolescence: A longitudinal, growth curve modelling study
2013, Journal of AdolescenceCitation Excerpt :Our findings show that trajectories of internalizing symptoms during adolescence increased for females and decreased for males. This is consistent with prior studies showing that although males and females have similar intercepts at age 10, female trajectories increase over adolescence and male trajectories follow a relatively stable decline over time (Bernstein, Borchardt, & Perwien, 1996; Leve et al., 2005; Offord et al., 1992; Romano et al., 2001). Specifically, studies have reported that among females IS trajectories steadily increase during the adolescent period, whereas male trajectories remained relatively stable (Leve et al., 2005) and that increased rates of depression in females emerges around age 13 following which female symptom rates are higher than those of their male counterparts (Angold & Rutter, 1992; Twenge & Nolen-Hoeksema, 2002).
Child physical and sexual abuse in a community sample of young adults: Results from the Ontario Child Health Study
2013, Child Abuse and NeglectCitation Excerpt :This study summarizes results from the OCHS regarding the prevalence of and risk factors for physical and sexual abuse in childhood. The OCHS was conducted in 1983 to investigate the distribution and determinants of health status in children aged 4–16 years (Offord et al., 1987); a second wave in 1987 assessed continuity and change in health status (Offord et al., 1992); and a third wave in 2000–2001 investigated functional outcomes in young adulthood. Information was collected about children who were 4–16 years of age in 1983 for the first wave, and about the same children when they were four years older in 1987 for the second wave.
