Zusammenfassung
In den meisten Mobilitätsstudien wird gezeigt, daß der berufliche Status des Sohnes vom beruflichen Status des Vaters abhängt. Dieser Aufsatz untersucht Prozesse, in denen sich die „Statusvererbung“ vollzieht. Dabei wird BLAU/DUNCANS (1967) pfadanalytisches Modell des Mobilitätsprozesses auf deutsche Daten angewendet und erweitert. Mit besonderer Aufmerksamkeit wird der Einfluß von Ausbildung auf die berufliche Karriere verfolgt. Eines der Hauptergebnisse ist die These, daß berufsbezogene Ausbildungsgänge während des Berufslebens ein wichtiger Faktor zur Egalisierung ungleicher Startbedingungen sind und weniger durch selektive Einflüsse der sozialen Herkunft bestimmt sind als der Erfolg von Kindern und Jugendlichen auf dem „Ersten Bildungsweg“.
Abstract
Since BLAU/DUNCAN (1967) several studies of the mobility process have made use of path analysis. Most of this work intends to specify the causal links between status of origin and achieved educational and occupational status. The present study applies path models of the mobility process to German data. Educational attainment is found to act as a central intervening variable between the status determining influences of social origin and occupational status of destination. Extending the original BLAU/DUNCAN model special attention is given to the influence of education achieved before work-life and educational efforts undertaken during work-life. It is shown that ‘occupation-near’ training during work-life is an important factor in levelling out inequality of starting conditions and that in the access to such educational opportunities the factor of social origin makes its selective influence less strongly felt than in the successes achieved by children and juveniles in the course of their formal schooling.
