The purpose of this study was to explore the life experience of patients suffering from chronic hepatitis C who were treated with interferon plus ribavirin therapy. A phenomenological method was used and ten patients were recruited. Open-ended, semi-structured, non-guided circumstantial interviews were conducted and recorded. All information was transcribed in written form. Data was analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological method. Research results were organized into the following three categories: (1) abnormal physical functions, (2) psychological and emotional difficulties, (3) reduced social interactivity. A comprehensive understanding of hepatitis C patient experiences enables nurses to design appropriate counseling and education programs according to client needs.
