Zusammenfassung

Die multiple Sklerose (MS) ist eine chronisch entzündliche Erkrankung des Gehirns und Rückenmarks, die überwiegend im jüngeren Erwachsenenalter auftritt und mit vorübergehenden oder dauerhaften neurologischen Ausfallerscheinungen einhergeht. Eine Assoziation zwischen Uveitis und MS ist seit Langem bekannt. Aktuelle Angaben legen eine ca. 10-mal höhere Uveitisprävalenz bei Patienten mit MS gegenüber der allgemeinen Bevölkerung nahe. Immer deutlicher stellt sich dabei die dominierende Verbindung von MS zur intermediären Uveitis mit einer typischen retinalen Begleitvaskulitis heraus. Die Behandlung der Uveitis sollte sich nicht nur am Schwergrad der intraokularen Entzündung orientieren, eine Abstimmung der Wirkstoffe muss auch die neurologische Manifestation in Betracht ziehen. Da sowohl die Uveitis als auch die MS pathogenetisch auf eine immunvermittelte Genese zurückgeführt werden, dominieren immunmodulatorische Therapieansätze, wobei berücksichtigt werden muss, dass Tumor-Nekrose-Faktor(TNF)-α-Blocker eine MS verschlechtern können.
