Causes of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) as assessed by cardiac MRI are well defined and substantiated by histology in various cardiac diseases. Typical pattern are known in postinfarct scar and specific types of cardiomyopathies (e.g. hypertrophic). Therefore, it has been deduced that LGE would delineate myocardial fibrosis in general. …
