Formaldehyd (CH₂O) oder Methanal nach IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Internationale Union für reine und angewandte Chemie) ist ein farbloses Gas mit einem stechenden Geruch. Es gehört als flüchtige organische Verbindung zu der Gruppe der Aldehyde.
