Zusammenfassung

Hintergrund

Es besteht eine komplexe Beziehung zwischen der chronisch obstruktiven Lungenerkrankung (COPD) und Diabetes.

Ergebnisse

In mehreren Studien wurde nachgewiesen, dass Diabetes die Progression und Prognose einer COPD verschlechtern kann. Dies kann Folge eines direkten Effekts einer Hyperglykämie auf die Lungenphysiologie, Inflammation oder Anfälligkeit für bakterielle Infektionen sein. Auf der anderen Seite wurden ausgeprägte Hinweise dafür gefunden, dass eine COPD das Risiko für die Entwicklung eines Typ-2-Diabetes, als Folge inflammatorischer Prozesse oder als Nebenwirkung der Therapie mit höher dosierten Kortikosteroiden, steigert.

Schlussfolgerungen

Obwohl es bedeutende Hinweise für eine Verbindung zwischen COPD und Diabetes gibt, sind zusätzliche Studien erforderlich, um diese Interaktion und die daraus resultierenden Implikationen besser zu verstehen.
