Zusammenfassung

Die meisten atherosklerotisch bedingten Schlaganfälle werden durch arterio-arterielle Embolien aufgrund rupturierter Plaques hervorgerufen. Die nicht invasive MRT-basierte Plaquebildgebung ist in der Lage, atherosklerotische Plaques in den Karotiden zu detektieren, die sowohl in asymptomatischen als auch in symptomatischen Patienten mit einem hohen Risiko für zerebrovaskuläre Ereignisse assoziiert sind. Eine Reihe von Patientenkollektiven könnten von der MRT-Plaquebildgebung profitieren.
