Abstract

Ischemic stroke is among the leading causes of death and long-term disability worldwide. Significant advancements in anti-ischemic therapy have been developed in the last few decades. Nonetheless, ischemic stroke continues to pose a significant problem, with candidate medications typically failing to provide favorable clinical outcomes throughout preclinical phase testing. Rutin, a natural flavonoid, has shown preventive properties against ischemic stroke through several mechanisms, such as antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, neuroprotective, and anti-neuroinflammatory. However, further research is required to understand how rutin protects against stroke. In addition, studies on the reports on human subjects ought to be carried out.

Graphical abstract

Rutin reduced oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and apoptosis in ischemic stroke, although the protective role of rutin in excitotoxicity in ischemic stroke needs to be evaluated in future studies.
