Acute kidney injury occurs in up to 20% of patients undergoing TAVR, but the mechanism of injury remains incompletely elucidated to date.

In this pilot randomized trial, we noted that TAVR patients experience transient renal hypoxia, a likely potential contributor to renal injury.

Low Frequency Therapeutic Ultrasound (LOTUS) therapy during TAVR increased urinary nitric oxide without significant side effects, providing a rationale for a larger trial to assess its impact on preventing kidney injury.
