Zusammenfassung

Mit einer Riechstörung sind meist Konsequenzen für den Alltag, die Ernährung und die allgemeine Gesundheit der Patienten verbunden, die bisher nur in Ansätzen verstanden sind. Die Bagatellisierung einer Riech- oder Schmeckstörung sollte aber vermieden werden, um eine adäquate Abklärung in die Wege leiten zu können. Anamnese, HNO-Status, Bildgebung und zumindest eine Screening-Riechtestung sind dabei erforderlich. Als Therapieoptionen stehen in Abhängigkeit von der Ursache die topische oder systemische Kortisongabe, sowie das Riechtraining bei postinfektiöser und posttraumatischer Ursache zur Verfügung.
