Zusammenfassung

Patienten am Lebensende weisen häufig belastende Symptome auf, die ihre Lebensqualität deutlich einschränken. Der Beginn dieser Lebensphase muss von den Behandelnden rechtzeitig erkannt werden, um eine gute Symptomkontrolle sicherzustellen. Hierfür müssen die Symptomlast erfasst, für die jeweils aktuelle Situation adäquate Therapieziele definiert und mögliche Therapiestrategien individuell formuliert werden. Neben der Identifikation von kausal zu therapierenden Ursachen werden häufig rein symptomatische Behandlungen notwendig. Therapieansätze verschiedener Professionen sind gleichberechtigt zu betrachten. Diese sollten zum Wohle des Patienten sich sinnvoll ergänzend zum Einsatz kommen.
