Zur konservativen Behandlung der Gonarthrose steht eine Vielzahl verschiedener therapeutischer Verfahren zur Verfügung. Entscheidend für die Auswahl ist stets das individuelle Patientenziel. Auf Basismaßnahmen wie Gewichtsreduktion, Anpassung der Ernährung und regelmäßige Bewegung sollte nicht verzichtet werden. Besonders wichtig sind eine ausführliche Patientenaufklärung und die Förderung der Eigeninitiative der Patienten.
