Übergewicht und Adipositas sind heute sowohl medizinische als auch „Public Health“-Probleme:
  • Sie betreffen sehr viele Menschen.
  • Sie bedeuten ein hohes Risiko für nicht-übertragbare Erkrankungen, die Lebenserwartung der Betroffenen ist verkürzt.
  • Sie haben soziale Auswirkungen (Stigmatisierung und persönliche Benachteiligung der Betroffenen).
  • Sie verursachen Kosten für unser Gesundheitswesen.
  • Sie erregen öffentliche und auch politische Aufmerksamkeit.
