Takuya Ishikawa et al. Usefulness of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy for the diagnosis of autoimmune pancreatitis using a 22-gauge Franseen needle: a prospective multicenter study

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy with a 22-gauge Franseen needle resulted in a histological diagnosis in more than 58 % of 55 patients with suspected type 1 autoimmune pancreatitis in this study. These results seem higher than those achieved previously with a conventional needle, but further studies with direct comparison between the needle types are needed.
