It is with deep sorrow that we received the news that Professor Massimo Crespi, former president of ESGE, passed away September 28, 2015, after a brief illness. Professor Crespi served as ESGE president from 1988 – 1992 and was awarded the status of Honorary Member in 1994.

With Prof. Massimo Crespi’s demise, ESGE lost not only a dear friend but also a most important pioneer and contributor to the world of Endoscopy.

During his term as president, he addressed several important issues including the organization of ESGE live workshops in Eastern Europe, with the staunch support of Professor Andrzej Nowak. He also founded the committee on minimal standard terminology for digestive endoscopy. Professor Crespi remained involved with this endeavor for many years which he was later to recall being one of his most rewarding initiatives. During his presidency, productive relationships were established with several gastrointestinal societies in the Middle-East which facilitated the organization of several ESGE co-organized educational events.

Professor Crespi touched the lifes of a huge number of people, as a dedicated doctor, committed contributor to the endoscopic society of ESGE and beyond, but perhaps even more importantly so as a warmhearted and dear friend with close connections to a large number of the readers of this text.

ESGE Research Committee

The ESGE Research Committee Chair, Professor Rees, would like to thank the 300 ESGE Individual Members who took the time to complete the recent online survey regarding research priorities.

Dr Luís Lourenço from Portugal, is the lucky winner of the latest ESGE prize draw and will receive a top of the range iPad.

The feedback from this survey was very insightful and will be helpful in elucidating key unanswered questions in the field of endoscopy and directing future research effort.

Your next opportunity to take part in an ESGE survey will be at the ESGE Learning Area at UEG Week in Barcelona. As indicated in the title “Help ESGE to help you”, the input from this survey will allow ESGE to better cater to your needs. You could win FREE registration to one of the upcoming Quality in Endoscopy symposia.
