Dr. Corey-Bloom is the guest editor of this issue of Seminars in Neurology on Dementia. Dr. Corey-Bloom is Professor of Neurology at the University of California San Diego. She is the Director of the UCSD Multiple Sclerosis Center, the Genetically Handicapped Persons Program, and the HDSA Center of Excellence. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Finch College in New York and a Ph.D. in Anatomy from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. She obtained her M.D. at the University of California San Diego. She trained in Neurology at the University of California San Diego and did a fellowship in Geriatric Neurology and Dementia there as well. She joined the faculty at the University of California San Diego in 1990 and has spent her entire career there. She has received several awards throughout her career, including Intern of the Year, the Golden Neuron Award presented to the Outstanding Neurology Resident, several Faculty Teaching Awards, and recognition in San Diego Top Doctors since 2003.
Dr. Corey-Bloom's research interests are in Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease, and she has been the Principal Investigator in several Clinical Trials for investigational agents in these diseases. She has published extensively on the diagnosis and evaluation of dementia, the efficacy and tolerability of several investigational agents for dementia, and the treatment of Huntington's Disease. She is the editor of the textbook Adult Neurology.
I have always been terribly impressed with Dr. Corey-Bloom's lectures at the American Academy of Neurology. She is an incredible teacher. She is an outstanding role model as a physician scientist and educator. She assembled an all star cast of Who's Who in Dementia to contribute to this issue of Seminars in Neurology. This issue is the most impressive and comprehensive monograph on dementia that I have ever read. My understanding of dementia was increased exponentially after having reviewed the manuscripts in this issue of Seminars; this has greatly enhanced my ability to educate my Residents, and tremendously increased my approach to and care of patients with cognitive disorders.
