Die Aufmerksamkeitsdefizit- und Hyperaktivitätsstörung (ADHS) ist erst seit einigen Jahren eine auch im Erwachsenenalter anerkannte Störung, für die es viele empirische Belege gibt. Dennoch wird sie im klinischen Alltag immer noch häufig übersehen. Spezielle Beachtung verdient bei der ADHS die bedeutende Komorbiditätsrate mit Substanzmissbrauch, die so hoch liegt wie bei kaum einer anderen psychischen Störung.
