Despite advances in surgical approach to esophagectomy with the adoption of minimally invasive esophagectomy, overall survival for esophageal cancer remains poor.
1 While incremental improvements in survival for patients undergoing esophagectomy have been observed, there are still challenges to achieving substantial gains in long-term oncologic outcomes.
2 Multimodal therapy for esophageal cancer has become a key component of the treatment paradigm in management of resectable esophageal cancer in appropriately selected patients.
3 While there has been significant progress in standards surrounding esophagectomy, we remain limited in the ability to harness and outrun the biology of this disease process.
