Zusammenfassung

Bakterielle Infektionen können alle Strukturen des Auges betreffen. Infektionen der Oberflächen lassen sich in den meisten Fällen mit topischer Antibiotikagabe behandeln. Bei intraokularen Infektionen ist eine Kombination aus intraokularer und systemischer Antibiotikagabe erforderlich. Aus der Lokalisation, der Schwere der Infektion, dem erwarteten Keimspektrum und den möglichen Konsequenzen der Infektion ergeben sich sinnvolle Therapieempfehlungen. Unter dem Aspekt der Selektion multiresistenter Erreger sollte auch ein Einsatz von Antibiotika zur unbegründeten, vermeintlichen Prophylaxe oder bei nichtbakteriellen Infektionen vermieden werden.
