Zusammenfassung

Das respiratorische Synzytialvirus (RSV) ist ein weit verbreiteter und bedeutsamer Erreger von Atemwegsinfektionen. Insbesondere bei Frühgeborenen und Säuglingen, aber auch bei Erwachsenen im fortgeschrittenen Alter führt es zu schweren Erkrankungen der unteren Atemwege mit Intensivpflichtigkeit und erhöhter Letalität. Die Diagnostik ist rasch verfügbar, die präventiven und therapeutischen Möglichkeiten jedoch begrenzt. Neue Substanzen sind bereits in der klinischen Erprobung.
