We are gratified to learn that the Reciprocal-Engagement Model (REM; McCarthy Veach et al.,
2007) is the theoretical-practical basis of a quality assessment measure of genetic counseling in Portugal. Measures with demonstrated strong psychometric properties are valuable tools for research, training/supervision, and practice. Paneque et al.’s (
2018) measure shows promise as a reliable and valid instrument for assessing genetic counseling practice. Their instrument adds to a growing body of research concerning the tenets, goals, and strategies that comprise the REM (e.g., Hartmann et al.,
2015; Redlinger-Grosse et al.,
2016; Redlinger-Grosse et al.,
