Zusammenfassung

Die juvenile idiopathische Arthritis (JIA) ist eine der häufigsten chronischen Erkrankungen und eine der häufigsten Ursachen für eine erworbene Behinderung im Kindesalter. Die Krankheit selbst sowie ihre Therapie können sich langfristig auf alle Lebensbereiche der Betroffenen auswirken. Daten der Kerndokumentation rheumakranker Kinder und Jugendlicher, einer bundesweiten prospektiven Erfassung von über 5000 Patienten pro Jahr, zeigen, dass, einhergehend mit den gravierenden Änderungen in der Behandlung, die JIA-assoziierte Krankheitslast in den vergangenen 10 Jahren abnahm. Outcomestudien belegen, dass sich auch die Langzeitprognose der JIA verbesserte; Patienten erreichen heutzutage mit einer höheren Lebensqualität das Erwachsenenalter. Dennoch ist die Prognose der JIA keineswegs zufriedenstellend. Mehr als die Hälfte der Patienten weisen im jungen Erwachsenenalter noch eine aktive Erkrankung auf und über ein Drittel eine gewisse Funktionsminderung und/oder Organschäden. JIA-Patienten bedürfen insofern auch jenseits des Jugendalters einer spezialisierten Versorgung.
