Zusammenfassung

Der chronische Nikotinabusus ist die häufigste vermeidbare Ursache für einen vorzeitigen Tod. Schätzungen gehen davon aus, dass derzeit weltweit jährlich nahezu 6 Mio. Menschen an den Folgen des Tabakkonsums sterben. Es gibt Hinweise darauf, dass mehr als 50% der akuten Myokardinfarkte im frühen Lebensalter zu Lasten des Tabakkonsums gehen. So ist der Verzicht auf Rauchen von herausragender Bedeutung in der Primärprävention kardiovaskulärer Erkrankungen. Doch auch ein Nikotinverzicht nach stattgehabtem Myokardinfarkt führt zu einer signifikanten Reduktion der kardiovaskulären Ereignisse. Eine Raucherentwöhnung sollte daher integraler Bestandteil einer effektiven Behandlungsstrategie bei kardiovaskulär erkrankten Patienten sein. Eine nachhaltige Rauchentwöhnung kann insbesondere durch die Kombination verhaltensmedizinischer und medikamentöser Therapieansätze erzielt werden, welche in der vorliegenden Übersicht detailliert dargestellt werden sollen.
