Surgery is an extremely rewarding career, but it can also be emotionally and physically exhausting. Awareness of physicians’ tendency to become burned out during their careers is increasing. The goal of the keynote address at the 19th annual meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons in Orlando, Florida was to acknowledge the increased rates of burnout and decreased satisfaction with surgical careers, and to identify ways to sustain satisfaction with a surgical career. …

S3-Leitlinie „Diagnostik und Therapie des Karpaltunnelsyndroms“

Prof. Dr. med. Gregor Antoniadis Das Karpaltunnelsyndrom ist die häufigste Kompressionsneuropathie peripherer Nerven. Obwohl die Anamnese mit dem nächtlichen Einschlafen der Hand (Brachialgia parästhetica nocturna) sehr typisch ist, ist eine klinisch-neurologische Untersuchung und Elektroneurografie in manchen Fällen auch eine Neurosonografie erforderlich. Im Anfangsstadium sind konservative Maßnahmen (Handgelenksschiene, Ergotherapie) empfehlenswert. Bei nicht Ansprechen der konservativen Therapie oder Auftreten von neurologischen Ausfällen ist eine Dekompression des N. medianus am Karpaltunnel indiziert.
