Kognitive Störungen stellen ein Kernsymptom der Schizophrenie dar. Das Ausmaß der kognitiven Defizite beeinflusst die Lebensqualität und die Mortalität der Patienten. Pathophysiologisch wird eine Dysfunktion präfrontaler Hirnanteile angenommen. Mit der transkraniellen Gleichstromstimulation (tDCS) steht ein sicheres Verfahren zur Verfügung, die präfrontale Hirnaktivität mit dem Ziel der kognitiven Leistungssteigerung zu modulieren. Zielsymptome bei der Schizophrenie sind neben den kognitiven Defiziten vor allem die Negativsymptomatik und akustische Halluzinationen.
