Zusammenfassung

Im folgenden Kapitel werden die wesentlichen entwicklungsphysiologischen und -psychologischen Erkenntnisse zum Schmerzerleben bei Kindern dargelegt. Es werden 5 Schmerzbereiche unterschieden: Schmerz infolge akuter Traumata sowie medizinisch-diagnostischer und therapeutischer Interventionen, krankheitsbezogene Schmerzprobleme und funktionelle Schmerzbeschwerden. Die verschiedenen Methoden der Erfassung von Schmerzerleben bzw. Schmerzverhalten von Kindern ab Geburt bis zum späteren Alter werden vorgestellt. Der Einsatz von therapeutischen Verfahren mit einem Fokus auf psychosozialen Interventionen wird ausführlich beleuchtet, und zwar bei akuten Schmerzzuständen (z. B. nach Operationen) und bei rekurrierendem oder andauerndem Schmerz, der krankheitsbedingt oder funktionell sein kann.
