Zusammenfassung

Chronische Schmerzen des älteren Menschen sollten auf Basis des biopsychosozialen Modells erklärt und therapiert werden. Die multimodale Schmerztherapie stellt durch ihren interdisziplinären und interprofessionellen Ansatz die Methode der Wahl dar. Im Alter ist meist nicht die Schmerzfreiheit das vorrangige Ziel. Vielmehr gilt es, über ein vielseitiges Therapieangebot die Lebensqualität der Betroffenen wiederherzustellen bzw. die Selbstständigkeit und Autonomie zu erhalten. Der vorliegende Beitrag erklärt die Grundlagen der multimodalen Schmerztherapie sowie ihre Besonderheiten im Alter.
