1] have nicely outlined the most frequent questions about thrombocytopenia in sepsis. Besides thrombocytopenia, sepsis indeed induces numerous pathophysiological changes. Among these, the acute-phase response mediated by pro-inflammatory cytokines stimulates hepatic synthesis of acute-phase proteins.
