Einblicke in zugrunde liegende Gehirnmechanismen am Beispiel der Urbanizität

Zusammenfassung

Die Relevanz sozialer Umweltfaktoren für das Risiko, psychische Störungen und Erkrankungen zu entwickeln, ist zwar gut belegt, die Erklärungen dieser Zusammenhänge sind jedoch noch lückenhaft. So hat etwa der Risikofaktor für Schizophrenie „städtisches Aufwachsen“ (frühe Urbanizität) Forscher lange Zeit vor ein Rätsel gestellt. Der vorliegende Artikel berichtet über die kürzlich entdeckten neuronalen Korrelate dieses Faktors im Kontext sozialer Stressverarbeitung und legt an diesem Beispiel dar, wie die Identifikation solcher Korrelate zum ätiologischen Verständnis psychischer Störungen und Erkrankungen beitragen kann. Unter Einbeziehung genetischer Risikomechanismen und Gen-Umwelt-Interaktionen wird ein Modell spezifiziert, welches eine Veränderung des perigenualen anterioren zingulären Kortex (pACC) und eine damit einhergehende Sensibilisierung gegenüber sozialen Stressoren als das relevante Bindeglied in der Modulation des Schizophrenierisikos durch frühe Urbanizität postuliert.
