I am pleased to introduce this special issue on pupil function. Documenta Ophthalmologica, the official journal of the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) since 1985, has recently expanded its scope to encompasses ‘the understanding and evaluation of visual function in the retina and/or central nervous system in humans and animals in health and in disease’ and evaluation of pupil function is key to understanding the neural mechanisms of vision. This special issue will highlight trends and advances in the field starting with the proceedings of the 34th Pupil Colloquium (held in Hydrabad in July 2024) published as abstracts (online resource: ESM_1.pdf). …
