A bed-ridden 3 ½-y-old boy developed fever (38.5 °C) and a florid purplish morbilliform rash. The boy had a recent history of cyanide poisoning with resultant encephalopathy, epilepsy and spasticity. He developed a florid generalized maculopapular rash (Fig. 1a) which also involved the conjunctivae (Fig. 1b) and the oral mucosa (Fig. 1c). Measles was suspected but no other patient in the ward was affected. The child had received measles immunization during infancy.
