Sulmasy et al. oppose medical aid in dying (MAID) on the grounds there is a misinterpretation of respect for autonomy. In doing so, they argue for the radical autonomy of physicians, who are described as isolated clinicians with merely medical knowledge of their patients. This ignores the availability of interdisciplinary teams (IDT) caring for terminally ill patients that provide perspectives beyond the physician’s medical knowledge. …
