Ependymomas arising in the supratentorial compartment have been reported to be molecularly distinct from their counterparts in the infratentorial compartment with
C11orf95-RELA fusions driving their oncogenesis [
1]. The “vascular” morphologic variant of ependymoma is frequently encountered in the supratentorial region with rare references in the literature [
2,
3]. Histologic distinction is imperative to avoid misdiagnosis as primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) WHO grade IV, due to its closely packed oval cells with less conspicuous pseudorosettes. Herein, we describe the imaging and histological features of this tumor arising in a young boy. Correct interpretation and timely diagnosis is critical to avoid rendering over treatment with radiotherapy. …
