The starry sky liver: multiple biliary hamartomas on MR cholangiopancreatography

A “starry sky” metaphorically describes the appearance on magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) of a liver containing multiple biliary hamartomas (MBH). It refers to the presence of small innumerable T2 hyperintense cystic lesions scattered throughout the hepatic parenchyma, which resembles a “starry sky” (Fig. 1) [1].
