Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is the most common form of diabetes in children and adolescents in Caucasian populations. Numerous advances have occurred in the diagnosis and management of T1D resulting in improvements in the life span and quality of life of these patients. However, many obstacles remain to be overcome, including inadequate algorithms of achieving optimal glycemic control, recurrent hypoglycemia, and chronic complications. The problems of management of T1D are magnified in developing countries due to poor awareness, inadequate numbers of trained professionals, and lack of adequate resources. …
