Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is accepted as the best overall index of kidney function. GFR varies with age, sex, body size and even diet [1]. A persistently reduced GFR is an indication of chronic kidney disease (CKD), whereas an abrupt reduction of the GFR may be used to describe acute kidney injury (AKI). A GFR of <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 increases the risk of complications and cardiovascular disease [2]. …
