Zusammenfassung

Der menschliche Körper wird von sehr vielen Mikroorganismen kolonisiert, die in ihrer Gesamtheit als Mikrobiota und deren genetisches Material als Mikrobiom bezeichnet wird. Sie kommen unter anderem auch im menschlichen Darm vor und können die Hirnfunktion und stressassoziiertes Verhalten beeinflussen [1]. Aktuelle Studien weisen darauf hin, dass die „Darm-Hirn-Achse“ als Kommunikationssystem Angst und depressives Verhalten über das neuroendokrine System moderiert [2]. Diese bidirektionalen Kommunikationspfade scheinen eine Reihe von neurologischen und psychiatrischen Erkrankungen zu beeinflussen.
